Yesterday was Wordle Wednesday, which meant I handed out your weekly bonus puzzle. This one was a bit of a brain teaser. Today, I’ll give you the answer. Here was yesterday’s puzzle:
🏰 The Castle Party Puzzle
Four creatures — a unicorn, a dragon, an ogre, and a gnome — are on their way from the village of Bupkis to a royal party at Meriwether Castle. They each depart at different times, travel at different speeds, and face different challenges along the road.
Your task: Determine the exact order in which they arrive at the castle.

- The dragon is the fastest, but left the village last after a long nap.
- The unicorn left first, but was delayed helping a lost child.
- The gnome is the slowest, but took a shortcut through the forest.
- The ogre is faster than the gnome, slower than the unicorn, and was delayed arguing with a troll at a toll bridge.
- The creature who arrived second encountered no obstacle.
- The creature who arrived third did not take the shortcut.
- The creature who arrived first encountered an obstacle.

Well, this didn’t go quite as well as I’d hoped. I’ve had a pretty great month of Wordles, however, so I can’t be too upset. SOUND wasn’t a great opening word today, leaving me with just one green box and 192 remaining solutions. Unfortunately, CRATE only cut that number down to 10 and SLEPT left me with 3. I tried SWEET after this, but I wish I’d gone with SHEET because that was the Wordle. Oh well!

How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “sheet” comes from the Old English scēte, meaning “a cloth, covering, or bed sheet,” which itself derives from the Proto-Germanic skautją, meaning “projecting piece, corner, or cloth.” This root is related to the idea of something spread out or extended. It’s connected to similar words in other Germanic languages, like Dutch scheet and German Schoß (lap, fold).
