Revolve Launches Student-Designed Denim Collection

Revolve is bringing student designs to the masses.

The millennial and Gen Z-focused retailer recently dropped the Rand Cai x Revolve Collection, a jean and jacket designed by Rand Cai, a student at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.

The collection is the product of the college’s mentorship program.

During the 2023-2024 school year, Desiree Neman, the in-house designer the Revolve-owned denim brand, GRLFRND, mentored nine students on behalf of Revolve. The students designed collections based on a theme provided by Neman. She selected one look from each student to bring to life and worked with them throughout the year, offering feedback on fit, fabric, and sellability.

Neman chose Rand Cai to collaborate with Revolve and sell his design on the site. “His look resonated most with the Revolve customer—we admired his innovative fabric manipulation and clean, modern silhouette,” said Mitch Moseley, president of Revolve Owned Brands.

The Rand Cai x Revolve Collection includes a 100 percent cotton jacket with a cropped fit, shoulder pads, a detachable hood and frayed detailing. The matching jeans flare jeans have destroyed heavyweight fringe detailing down legs. The collection retails for $428-$498.

This initiative underscores Revolve’s commitment to fostering the next generation of designers and providing a platform for emerging talent to break into the industry.

“Supporting young designers helps nurture the next generation of talent, bringing fresh ideas and innovation to the fashion industry. It also aligns with our mission to discover and promote emerging creatives while offering our customers unique, forward-thinking designs,” Moseley said.
