G-Star’s collaboration with Walter Van Beirendonck, one of the “Antwerp Six” designers that redefined contemporary fashion in the early 1980s, is now available.
Van Beirendonck debuted the collection last summer at Paris Fashion Week Men’s alongside his Spring/Summer 2025 collection called “I Have Seen the Future,” consisting of padded suits and extreme proportions.
Van Beirendonck created the G-Star range using minimal stitching, experimenting with glue and tape.
Denim highlights include a cropped jean jacket, loose fit jeans and unisex shorts and waders. C2C Gold Certified denim is used throughout the collection. Details like red rivets, rubberized zip closures and 3D-embossed circles and Van Beirendonck’s slogan “Future Proof” give the pieces a unique look. Boxy tees, cropped and oversized sweatshirts and denim baseball cap round out the line.
The partnership with G-Star was an opportunity for the Belgian designer to step back into denim. As an independent designer, he said jeans are “a complicated and costly product” to produce.
Van Beirendonck, who was given carte blanche for the collaboration, spent 18 months developing the designs.
“I could do whatever I wanted. But it’s not in my character to stick to what I know. It was clear in my mind that I wanted to create garments, not an artwork or an installation. I wanted to challenge myself and explore new techniques. I want to be future-proof,” he said in an interview with G-Star.
The collection is available now on G-Star’s website. It retails for $260-$1,190.
