Dovetail Teams with John Deere to ‘Address Women’s Needs’

Dovetail Workwear is plowing new ground in women’s workwear.

On Wednesday, the Portland, Ore.-based women’s workwear brand unveiled its latest collection created in partnership with John Deere, an American corporation that manufactures agricultural machinery, heavy equipment and more.

Through the partnership, the two brands created a collection of workwear specifically designed to “address the needs of women in the agricultural industry,” according to Dovetail.

This focus is increasingly important as women make up 36 percent of U.S. farmers and hold leadership roles on 56 percent of farms, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. Despite their large presence on farms, workwear options designed to meet their needs remain limited, Sara DeLuca, co-founder of Dovetail Workwear, noted.

“Dovetail’s focus on women allows the brand to innovate with their needs in mind, delivering the best possible solutions,” DeLuca told SJ Denim.

For the six-piece collection—which features workwear essentials like two-way stretch bootcut jeans, bandanas and overalls in multiple colorways—Dovetail and John Deere collaborated directly with female farmers through surveys, focus groups and wear testing. The brands were “laser focused” on perfecting fit and incorporating performance stretch fabrics, DeLuca added.

The jeans feature split hems for a boot-friendly fit, reinforced back pockets and EZWaist, Dovetail’s signature waistband that provides flexibility and comfort.

“Deere’s collaboration with Dovetail is born from real conversations with women doing real work,” said Lauren Willis, global director of brand licensing at John Deere. “Through this workwear line we hope to help women in agriculture feel great as they dress for the busy and unique lives they lead.”

DeLuca added that the collaboration provided an opportunity to dive deeper into a consumer they had designed for before—but never with this level of detail—spanning diverse demographics, from small farmers to large-scale crop growers and ranchers across various regions.

“Many of the needed attributes of work gear for farmers are important to women working in other fields and will influence future inline products,” DeLuca said.

The Dovetail Workwear x John Deere capsule collection retails for $25-$139 and is available for purchase on Dovetail’s website.
