BMW Motorrad has officially pulled the covers off the new R 12 G/S, a retro-inspired enduro that blends old-school aesthetics with modern engineering. Drawing from the BMW R 80 G/S, the new model revives the spirit of dual-sport adventure with cutting-edge upgrades and unmistakable design cues.
Powered by a 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine, the R 12 G/S produces 109 hp and 85 lb-ft of torque, mated to a left-side, high-mounted exhaust for classic enduro flair. Riding modes include Rain, Road and Enduro, with an optional Enduro Pro mode for more demanding terrain. BMW’s Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and engine drag torque control (MSR) come standard.
With a 21-inch front wheel and long-travel suspension, the R 12 G/S is off-road ready straight from the factory. The Enduro Package Pro adds an 18-inch rear wheel, handlebar risers and aggressive enduro footrests for those craving even more trail performance. Ergonomics are tailored for adventure, offering three seat options and a one-piece tubular steel spaceframe designed for rigidity and rider comfort. A fully adjustable upside-down fork and Paralever rear suspension with 200 mm travel ensure performance across rugged terrain.
Other highlights include LED lighting, BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, an optional Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless shifting and classic round instrumentation. Riders can choose from three colorways, including a standout Option 719 Aragonit scheme.
“The new BMW R 12 G/S is a classic enduro for puristic off-road fun,” said Markus Lederer, Head of Boxer Series, adding, “We know many fans have been eagerly waiting for this motorcycle.”
At the time of writing, details on price and availability for the R 12 G/S have not yet been announced.
