Enterprise technology firm Aptean is expanding its solutions for supply chain management and manufacturing through its latest acquisition.
The Alpharetta, Georgia-based company has signed a definitive agreement to acquire digital factory software creator Germanedge. “Through the addition of Germanedge, Aptean further establishes itself as a leader in industrial software solutions designed specifically for complex discrete and process manufacturing needs,” said TVN Reddy, CEO of Aptean.
Following regulatory approvals, Aptean will be acquiring Germanedge from its current owners, Alpina Management GmbH-managed funds and private shareholders. Financial terms of the purchase were not disclosed. “Germanedge is a perfect example for a highly innovative software company providing mission-critical applications to its blue-chip customer base,” said Florian Strehle, a partner at Alpina.
Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Germanedge has more than 200 full-time employees that work in offices across Europe and the United States. Germanedge Group is comprised of four technology firms: Gefasoft, which focuses on production and equipment efficiency; worker connectivity platform New Solutions; supply chain planning solution Orsoft; and QDA Solutions, which centers on quality management. All the software from these firms is centralized and integrated into Germanedge’s Edge.One cloud-based platform.
Although Germanedge already has upwards of 300 customers across more than 20 countries, becoming part of Aptean will open the door to more international expansion. “The merger of Germanedge and Aptean presents a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our businesses globally and continue serving our customers’ digital factory operations, while also granting them access to Aptean’s extensive suite of complementary ERP and SCM solutions,” said Christian von Stengel, CEO of Germanedge.
Aptean’s suite of software includes enterprise resource planning (ERP), product lifecycle management (PLM), transportation management solutions (TMS), warehouse management solutions (WMS), shop floor control and more. Among Aptean’s offerings are ERP solutions that are tailored to the apparel and footwear industry’s supply chain digitalization needs.
Both Aptean and Germanedge are focused on making supply chain operations smarter through digitalization and connectivity. Von Stengel noted, “We are closely aligned with Aptean regarding our long-term vision of developing software for Industry 4.0, enabling our customers to manufacture their products more efficiently, flexibly and sustainably.”
As PwC’s Digital Factory Transformation Survey 2022 estimates, companies are investing over $1.1 trillion in factory technology and digitalization upgrades annually, with $214 billion of that spend happening in retail and consumer goods industries.
This acquisition comes on the heels of Aptean’s agreement to acquire Logility Supply Chain Solutions, Inc., which specializes in AI-powered planning tools. Announced in January, the Logility deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025.
